If DUTY stands for 4 - 21 - 20 - 25, then TALK stands for ______.
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (B) 20 - 1 - 12 - 11

Explanation

The coding scheme represents each letter of the word by its standard positional value in the English alphabet, where A = 1, B = 2, and so on until Z = 26.

Following this pattern for the word DUTY: D is the 4th letter U is the 21st letter T is the 20th letter Y is the 25th letter This gives the code 4 - 21 - 20 - 25.

Applying the same logic to the word TALK: T is the 20th letter A is the 1st letter L is the 12th letter K is the 11th letter

This results in the code 20 - 1 - 12 - 11.

PET : NCR : : LONE : ____ There is certain analogy in first two words. Which is the word in blank space ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (B) JMLC

Explanation

The relationship between the first two words is established by shifting each letter backward by two positions in the English alphabetical order.

For the first pair, PET and NCR: P occupies the 16th position, and subtracting 2 gives 14, which is N. E occupies the 5th position, and subtracting 2 gives 3, which is C. T occupies the 20th position, and subtracting 2 gives 18, which is R.

Applying this identical pattern of subtracting 2 from each letter of the word LONE: L at the 12th position minus 2 gives 10, which is J. O at the 15th position minus 2 gives 13, which is M. N at the 14th position minus 2 gives 12, which is L. E at the 5th position minus 2 gives 3, which is C.

Combining these letters yields JMLC.

Explanation

Starting from the origin (0, 0), the movement of A can be represented on a Cartesian plane where North is the positive y-axis, South is the negative y-axis, East is the positive x-axis, and West is the negative x-axis.

Initially, A walks 3 km North, reaching the coordinates (0, 3).

He then turns left, which is towards the West, and walks 2 km, arriving at (-2, 3).

Next, he turns left again, which is towards the South, and walks 3 km, bringing him to (-2, 0).

Finally, facing South, he turns right, which is towards the West, and walks 3 km, ending at (-5, 0).

The distance between the final position (-5, 0) and the starting point (0, 0) is 5 km, and the direction is directly West.

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) Vijay

Explanation

By analyzing the given height relations, we can construct a single chain of inequalities. We are given that Sagar is taller than Vijay, which means Sagar > Vijay. Sujeet is taller than Sagar, giving Sujeet > Sagar > Vijay. Shrikant is taller than Sujeet, giving Shrikant > Sujeet > Sagar > Vijay. Finally, Ajit is taller than Shrikant, resulting in the complete order of Ajit > Shrikant > Sujeet > Sagar > Vijay. This chain clearly demonstrates that Vijay is shorter than all the others and thus has the least height.

Answer: (A) total internal reflection

Explanation

An optical fiber works on the principle of total internal reflection. It consists of an inner core and an outer cladding, where the core is made of a material with a higher refractive index than the cladding. When a light ray enters the core at an angle of incidence greater than the critical angle, it undergoes continuous internal reflections at the core-cladding boundary. This keeps the light trapped within the fiber core, allowing it to travel long distances with minimal loss of signal strength.

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (D) 36

Explanation

By substituting the numerical positions of the letters in alphabetical order, where A = 1, B = 2, and so on, we get: O = 15 T = 20 L = 12

For the first relation, the product of the numerator letter values is divided by the denominator letter value: (O × T) ÷ L = (15 × 20) ÷ 12 = 300 ÷ 12 = 25

Using the same logic for the second relation, where I = 9, X = 24, and F = 6: (I × X) ÷ F = (9 × 24) ÷ 6 = 216 ÷ 6 = 36

Which letters should come at question mark ? (C)/(P') · (G)/(L') · (T)/(S') · ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (A) (X)/(O)

Explanation

The letters in the numerators represent their normal alphabetical position from the left where A = 1 and Z = 26. The letters with a prime symbol in the denominators represent their reverse alphabetical position from the right where Z' = 1, which is calculated as 27 minus the normal position.

The positions of the letters in the given terms are: C = 3, and P' = 27 - 16 = 11 G = 7, and L' = 27 - 12 = 15 T = 20, and S' = 27 - 19 = 8

The terms are grouped in pairs of two.

In the first pair, the numerator increases by 4 (from 3 to 7) and the denominator's reverse rank increases by 4 (from 11 to 15).

In the second pair, applying the same pattern: The numerator increases by 4 from T: 20 + 4 = 24, which corresponds to X. The denominator's reverse rank increases by 4 from S': 8 + 4 = 12. The letter with a reverse position of 12 is O because 27 - 12 = 15, which is the normal alphabetical position of O.

Government audit, particularly the audit of government expenditure, is fundamentally designed to ensure legislative control over public finances. A core component of this process is the audit against provision of funds, which places a primary emphasis on budgetary provisions. This standard of auditing verifies that any public money spent is fully covered by an appropriation or grant authorized by the legislature in the budget. It ensures that the actual expenditure remains within the limits of the approved budgetary allocations and is utilized strictly for the specific purpose or scheme for which the legislature voted the funds. This makes checking budgetary provisions the central focus of government audit to maintain public accountability and financial discipline.

Let the sum of the current ages of the father and his son be S.

The sum of their ages 10 years ago was 50. Since there are two people, each was 10 years younger 10 years ago. This relation is expressed as: S - (2 × 10) = 50 S - 20 = 50 S = 70

To find the sum of their ages 20 years in the future, we add 20 years to both of their current ages: Sum after 20 years = S + (2 × 20) Sum after 20 years = 70 + 40 = 110

Cotton crop is to fertilize with 60 kg/ha, required quantity of fertilizer through muriate of potash for 0.40 ha is ______ .
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) 40 kg/ha

Explanation

The formula to calculate the required quantity of fertilizer is:

Fertilizer quantity (kg/ha) = (Recommended dose of nutrient in kg/ha × 100) ÷ Percentage of nutrient in the fertilizer

Muriate of potash contains 60% potash (K₂O). Substituting the recommended dose of 60 kg/ha:

Muriate of potash required per hectare = (60 × 100) ÷ 60 = 100 kg/ha

To find the quantity of muriate of potash required for 0.40 hectare:

Total quantity = 100 kg/ha × 0.40 ha = 40 kg

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (A) knqro

Explanation

The standard pattern followed by the sets of alphabets is +3, +3, -1, and -3 based on their positions in the English alphabet. For instance, the sequence starting with d has alphabetical positions 4, 7, 10, 9, and 6, which follows the +3, +3, -1, -3 progression.

In the case of knqro, the alphabetical positions are k (11), n (14), q (17), r (18), and o (15). The differences between consecutive letters in this set are +3, +3, +1, and -3. This deviates from the standard pattern because of the +1 difference between the third and fourth letters rather than -1, making it the odd set.

If ACT ÷ AT = 11 then what is ACT ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (B) 264

Explanation

The equation ACT ÷ AT = 11 can be rewritten as ACT = 11 × AT.

By representing the three-digit number ACT and the two-digit number AT in their expanded positional forms: ACT = 100 × A + 10 × C + T AT = 10 × A + T

Substituting these expansions into the equation gives: 100 × A + 10 × C + T = 11 × (10 × A + T) 100 × A + 10 × C + T = 110 × A + 11 × T

Rearranging the terms: 10 × C = 10 × A + 10 × T

Dividing the entire equation by 10 yields: C = A + T

Applying this to the value 264 where A = 2, C = 6, and T = 4: 6 = 2 + 4

This satisfies the relation. Verifying the division: 264 ÷ 24 = 11

Which is the most critical crop growth stage for irrigation in wheat ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (A) crown root initiation

Explanation

Crown root initiation is the most critical stage for irrigation in wheat, typically occurring 20 to 25 days after sowing. During this stage, the transition from temporary seminal roots to permanent crown roots takes place just below the soil surface. Adequate moisture is essential at this juncture to facilitate the development and elongation of these crown roots, which are responsible for the primary uptake of nutrients and water throughout the crop cycle. Water stress during crown root initiation leads to poor root anchorage, fewer tillers, and ultimately a significant reduction in overall grain yield.

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Answer: (B) 79

Explanation

The logic behind the puzzle is based on combining the units digits of the two numbers.

For each equation, the tens digit of the result is the units digit of the second number, and the units digit of the result is the units digit of the first number.

For 65 + 23 = 35: The units digit of the second number 23 is 3, and the units digit of the first number 65 is 5. Combining them gives 35.

For 38 + 75 = 58: The units digit of the second number 75 is 5, and the units digit of the first number 38 is 8. Combining them gives 58.

For 81 + 24 = 41: The units digit of the second number 24 is 4, and the units digit of the first number 81 is 1. Combining them gives 41.

Applying the same logic to 49 + 27: The units digit of the second number 27 is 7, and the units digit of the first number 49 is 9. Combining them gives 79.

Answer: (C) 1210

Explanation

The given pattern for any relation a × b is determined by the formula: Result = concatenate(2b, 2a)

This means we double both numbers and place the doubled value of the second number first, followed by the doubled value of the first number.

Applying this formula to the given examples: For 2 × 3: 2 × 3 = 6 2 × 2 = 4 Concatenating 6 and 4 gives 64.

For 4 × 5: 2 × 5 = 10 2 × 4 = 8 Concatenating 10 and 8 gives 108.

For 7 × 8: 2 × 8 = 16 2 × 7 = 14 Concatenating 16 and 14 gives 1614.

Applying this same formula to 5 × 6: 2 × 6 = 12 2 × 5 = 10 Concatenating 12 and 10 yields 1210.

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) 60 days

Explanation

Let the total work be 30 units.

Since A and B can complete the work in 30 days together, their combined rate of work is 30 / 30 = 1 unit per day.

In 20 days, A and B working together complete: 20 × 1 = 20 units

The remaining work is: 30 - 20 = 10 units

A completes these 10 units alone in 20 days, which means A's rate of work is: 10 / 20 = 0.5 units per day

Since their combined rate is 1 unit per day, B's rate of work is: 1 - 0.5 = 0.5 units per day

The number of days B would take to complete the total work of 30 units alone is: 30 / 0.5 = 60 days

The newspaper served as a powerful platform for advocating rationalism, individual freedom, women education, and the eradication of caste-based discrimination, publishing articles in both Marathi and English.

In a code language ‘Favourable’ is written as G1W45S1CM2. How will, ‘Beautiful’ be written ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (B) C215U3G5M

Explanation

The coding scheme follows two distinct rules for consonants and vowels:

Consonants are replaced with the next letter in alphabetical order (+1 shift). Vowels (A, E, I, O, U) are represented by their sequential numeric position, where A = 1, E = 2, I = 3, O = 4, and U = 5.

Applying this rule to the word Favourable: F (consonant) becomes G A (vowel) becomes 1 V (consonant) becomes W O (vowel) becomes 4 U (vowel) becomes 5 R (consonant) becomes S A (vowel) becomes 1 B (consonant) becomes C L (consonant) becomes M E (vowel) becomes 2

This yields the code G1W45S1CM2.

Applying the exact same rule to the word Beautiful: B (consonant) becomes C E (vowel) becomes 2 A (vowel) becomes 1 U (vowel) becomes 5 T (consonant) becomes U I (vowel) becomes 3 F (consonant) becomes G U (vowel) becomes 5 L (consonant) becomes M

This yields the code C215U3G5M.

Aquatic plants and animals survive in the cold region because of ________.
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (B) an anomalous behavior of water

Explanation

Water exhibits anomalous behavior where it contracts when heated from 0°C to 4°C and expands when cooled from 4°C to 0°C. Consequently, water reaches its maximum density at 4°C. In cold regions, as the atmospheric temperature drops, the surface water cools down, becomes denser, and sinks. However, once the surface temperature drops below 4°C, the water becomes less dense and remains at the top, eventually freezing into ice. This top layer of ice acts as a thermal insulator, preventing the heat of the deeper water from escaping into the atmosphere. The water beneath the ice remains in a liquid state at 4°C, which allows aquatic plants and animals to survive the freezing conditions.

The Seventh Five-Year Plan (1985–1990) recommended the adoption of Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) in India as a critical fiscal reform to control rising public expenditure and manage the growing budgetary deficit.

First initiated in the Department of Science and Technology in 1983, ZBB was formally adopted by the Union Government in 1986. Under this system, every department and ministry was required to justify its entire budget request from scratch (a zero base) rather than simply proposing incremental changes to the previous year's allocations. This approach was promoted during the Seventh Plan to identify and eliminate redundant schemes, thereby optimizing resource allocation and curbing wasteful government spending.

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) D

Explanation

To find the relative positions of the six friends, we can arrange them in a circle. In a circular seating arrangement where people face the center (face to face): Left refers to the clockwise direction. Right refers to the counter-clockwise direction.

Let us place the friends at six positions numbered 1 to 6 in a clockwise direction:

Position 1 is occupied by D.

From statement (I), E is on the left side of D. Since left is the clockwise direction, E is at position 2.

From statement (III), F is between E and A. Since D is at position 1 and E is at position 2, F must be at position 3, and A must be at position 4.

From statement (II), C is between A and B. Since A is at position 4, C must be at position 5, and B must be at position 6.

This gives the complete clockwise arrangement of the friends: D (1) → E (2) → F (3) → A (4) → C (5) → B (6) → D (1)

Since clockwise represents the left side, the person on the left side of B (6) is the one in the next clockwise position, which is D (1).

Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (A) W

Explanation

The relationship K = P represents opposite pairs of the English alphabet, where a letter at a certain position from the beginning is paired with the letter at the same position from the end.

K is the 11th letter from the beginning, and P is the 11th letter from the end (27 - 11 = 16, which is P).

Following this rule, D is the 4th letter from the beginning of the alphabet. Its opposite is the 4th letter from the end, which is W (27 - 4 = 23, which is W). Therefore, D is equal to W.

Answer: (B) 1966-69

Explanation

Following the conclusion of the Third Five-Year Plan (1961–1966), India faced severe economic crises due to the Sino-Indian War of 1962, the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, and intense widespread famine. These challenges significantly strained the nation's financial resources, forcing the government to prioritize immediate defense needs and famine relief. Consequently, the regular five-year planning cycle was suspended, and three consecutive annual (one-year) plans were implemented from 1966 to 1969.

The velocity of sound waves in moist air is ________ its velocity in dry air.
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) greater than

Explanation

The velocity of sound v in a gaseous medium is given by the formula v = √(γP / ρ), where γ is the adiabatic index, P is the pressure, and ρ is the density of the medium.

At a constant temperature and pressure, the density of moist air is less than the density of dry air. This is because water vapor molecules have a molar mass of approximately 18 g/mol, which is significantly lighter than the main constituents of dry air, namely nitrogen (N₂ at 28 g/mol) and oxygen (O₂ at 32 g/mol), which together give dry air an average molar mass of about 29 g/mol. Replacing heavier dry air molecules with lighter water vapor molecules decreases the overall density of the air.

Since the velocity of sound is inversely proportional to the square root of the density of the medium (v ∝ 1/√ρ), the lower density of moist air leads to a higher velocity of sound waves.

If fourth August falls on a Wednesday today, what will be the date on a Wednesday after three months from today ?
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (A) 10 November

Explanation

Three months from 4 August is 4 November. To find the day of the week on 4 November, we calculate the total number of days between 4 August and 4 November:

Days remaining in August = 31 - 4 = 27 days Days in September = 30 days Days in October = 31 days Days in November = 4 days

Total days = 27 + 30 + 31 + 4 = 92 days

Dividing 92 by 7 to find the number of odd days: 92 ÷ 7 = 13 weeks with a remainder of 1 day.

Since 4 August is a Wednesday, 4 November is Wednesday + 1 day = Thursday.

The first Wednesday after 4 November is Thursday (4 November) + 6 days = Wednesday, 10 November.

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (C) 693

Explanation

The numbers in the given group, namely 567, 945, 594, and 738, share a common mathematical pattern where the sum of their digits is equal to 18. Specifically, 5 + 6 + 7 = 18, 9 + 4 + 5 = 18, 5 + 9 + 4 = 18, and 7 + 3 + 8 = 18. Consequently, all these numbers are also divisible by 9. Applying this digit-sum rule to 693 gives 6 + 9 + 3 = 18, which is also divisible by 9, making it the correct matching term for the group.

Answer: (C) 16152324

Explanation

The terms on the left side of the analogy are symmetric to those on the right side across the vertical central axis of the number pyramid.

Looking at the first term of each pair: 5 on the left corresponds to 9 on the right. 6 on the left corresponds to 8 on the right. 12 on the left corresponds to 14 on the right. 11 on the left corresponds to 15 on the right.

Thus, 561211 on the left side of the pyramid is symmetric to 981415 on the right side.

To find the term corresponding to 981415, we find the symmetric counterpart of 10111918 on the right side of the pyramid: 10 (1st from the left on row 4) corresponds to 16 (1st from the right on row 4). 11 (2nd from the left on row 4) corresponds to 15 (2nd from the right on row 4). 19 (3rd from the left on row 5) corresponds to 23 (3rd from the right on row 5). 18 (2nd from the left on row 5) corresponds to 24 (2nd from the right on row 5).

Combining these values yields 16152324.

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (D) North

Explanation

Let the starting point, the house, be represented by the coordinates (0, 0) on a Cartesian plane.

Moving 20 meters north results in the coordinates (0, 20).

Moving 15 meters east changes the coordinates to (15, 20).

Moving 10 meters south changes the coordinates to (15, 10).

Moving 15 meters west changes the coordinates to (0, 10).

The final coordinates of (0, 10) lie directly on the positive vertical axis relative to the origin (0, 0), which represents the north direction.

Answer: (D) Einstein's theory of relativity

Explanation

Gravity Probe B (GP-B) was a satellite-based physics mission launched by NASA on April 20, 2004, designed to test two previously unverified predictions of Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. These two effects are the geodetic effect (the warping of local spacetime by the mass of the Earth) and frame-dragging (the dragging of local spacetime by the rotating Earth, also known as the Lense–Thirring effect). The spacecraft utilized four ultra-precise spherical gyroscopes to measure these extremely subtle relativistic deviations with high precision.

We cannot change natural laws because of ________.
Tap an option to check yourself

Correct

Not quite — the correct answer is highlighted

Show answer & explanationHide answer

Answer: (D) none of the above

Explanation

Natural laws are universal, constant, and fundamental principles that govern the behavior of the physical universe. They are objective truths inherent to nature itself, existing entirely independent of human actions, desires, or comprehension. While science allows us to discover, study, and formulate these laws, and beliefs reflect personal or cultural convictions, neither scientific progress nor subjective belief systems have the power to alter the physical laws of reality. Because the immutability of natural laws is a consequence of their intrinsic and absolute nature rather than any human construct or supernatural idea, none of the listed options represent the reason they cannot be changed.
